Just curious as to which you all would prefer living in (if you had to) seeing as the house prices are both cheap as hell compared to the rest of LI.

I am very familiar with both areas so I know the good and bad spots of both. Quite honestly even the "horrible" area of Bellport between Sunrise and Mountauk that people say to avoid like the plague - has some fine areas. Also north of sunrise by the outlets are fine middle class areas. Not to mention you then have Bellport Village which is beautiful and upscale.

Shirley just pretty much needs help all over...But also fine if single and dont need to worry about schools. ( I have lived here for a long time and never had any problems) but the area is still known as the hole of LI.

Thoughts? opinions?

Is there a limit to where in Shirley, or is anywhere in Shirley open in this hypothetical situation?

Seeing as schools don't matter in this game:
If it's anywhere in Shirley, I would take Shirley off the WM Floyd close to the bay over N Bellport anyday.

My gut says 14 pages at least, but these areas are so universally shunned by CD that it could go the other way and barely break a page.

I know they both are dead horses. But I do not agree - Shirley and Mastic has 3829038230 times the amount of threads/bashings.

And why is this? I live in the area you mentioned and I hate it. I despise the stigma that is attached to the town, although like I mentioned - I never had any personal problems. I guess nobody cares about the rich part of Bellport? (village) <--- Don't worry Walter, I caught it.

Why: south Shirley is close to the Outer Beach (4WD) and North Bellport is not. Why would I want to live in a lousy area if I couldn't be on the beach in minutes flat?

If you're unhappy with where you live -- move.

Why do you hate it?

The stigma is unfortunate, but it is not unearned.

Agreed with the Beach part. I am a mile away from Smith Point and it is very convenient. I just wanted opinions. Also I figured that Bellport Village would give it the edge because of How nice it is and the history behind it.

I guess i don't "hate" it. But like I said I just dislike the stigma...Can't seem to get passed it I guess.

If anything North Bellport(between Sunrise and Montauk) should be compared with Mastic Beach.

As for your question, I would probably prefer North Bellport (since i'm a minority) and wouldn't want to feel out of place. But being unbiased, in terms of quality of life, it'll probably be better in Shirley.

I have a 3 friends here who grew up in Bellport Village. They want no part of the schools there. One would consider moving back after the kids have left.

MHO is that the beach has kept Shirley from a worse fate.
