Anyone else hear and feel it? I called 631-852-COPS to see what the deal was and they said they had received alot of calls complaing of a big boom that could be felt inside peoples homes. The operator (very nice person) said as of now they thought it was an F15 plane that broke the sound barrier??
Or, did the BNL finally do something with those black holes???
I called News 12 (yes, the boom was that loud and that strong) and they said they were investigating but so far no source has turned up.
That loud boom that Long Island ers heard over central and southern Suffolk County on Thursday morning was a jet breaking the sound barrier, a spokeswoman from Brookhaven National Laboratory said.
"We were told it was a military plane breaking the sound barrier," said Diane Greenberg of the Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton .
Greenberg said she was told that the plane apparently came from Long Island MacArthur Airport.

The thundering sound -- a sonic boom -- was heard about 9 a.m., and callers from Wading River , East Shoreham , Ridge , Shirley and Miller Place were among those who reported it to police and fire, officials said.
"We got a bunch of calls on it," said a spokesman from the Suffolk County fire marshal's office.
I thought they had rules about that over populated areas? Maybe the low cloud cover caused the boom to come back down more than usual?
I'd read sometime back that they had something like 5 separate booms from a military overflight over Puget Sound, which caused a bit of worry for folks there.
The “loud boom” that residents heard Thursday morning across Suffolk County was caused by a military jet, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said.
A F-15 military jet “experienced a problem” and had to make a “rapid descent” at 8:45 a.m. the spokesman told the Press.
The jet descended from an altitude between 14 and 17 thousand feet, and as the aircraft was going through 10,000 feet it “caused the noise and the vibration that was heard and felt by people on eastern Long Island,” he said.
“The aircraft was experiencing a problem,” he explained. “The pilot had to take action and as a result of him going to the lower altitude very quickly.”
The pilot landed the jet safely, the spokesman said.
A spokeswoman for Brookhaven National Laboratory said the boom sounded like thunder.
How is it a joke? Its been all over the news that the president has been at the vineyard.
.....which is a couple of states away and I don't believe the news said anything about the President leaving/going to long island/travelling today. So either this was a joke or.....I can't even guess what else.
