In Nassau, we really liked Garden City and Rockville Centre. We've heard good things about East Williston, too. On the south shore, places like Wasntagh, Bellmore, Seaford, and Massapequa come to mind. As far as these places with the best downtowns...RVC and GC, maybe EW (Williston Park).
GC has my favorite chinese restaurant on LI. Orchid.
Old school meaning they don't also serve sushi, I hope? For whatever, possibly irrational, reason I just don't put much stock in the places that serve both.

Im pretty sure they do not. GC may be able to confirm.

Exactly. The waiters are still in tuxedos and many orders come with a silver dome over the plate. Very tasty food, though. Not outlandish, but not take -out prices by far.
Excuse me, Mr. O'Misinformed: Any Jew who eats in Chinese restaurants (or any other non-kosher restaurant) isn't generally too worried about going there on a Saturday -- or any other day of the week, for that matter.

Touche...I didn't mean it for strict Sabbath adherence, but more a relic from a time when more Jews strictly adhered to the Sabbath. My misake...pork fried rice all around. And Mr. O' will be there with my keg for all to share!
