I highly doubt this will come anywhere near us. My projection is that it hits the Bahamas and then south Florida.

1934 - thats the only year I can find. Two tropical storms had the center pass over the island.

There have been a few years where 2 impacted the island...

2 tropical storms (one made landfall, the other went just west up the Hudson Valley) in 1894.

1944 - The Great Atlantic Hurricane (which by the way was technically not a hurricane when it got here). Another hurricane passed about 50 miles south of Montauk.

1954 - Carol hit in August. Edna just missed in Sept.

1961 - Alma and Ester both passed just south and east of the island.

1991 - this one gets the big asterisks. Bob hit in August. Then the "Perfect Storm" in late Oct...which by definition became a hurricane (although the NHC never named it). So do what you want with that one.

1996 - Bertha technically passed over Queens and Nassau in July...then Josephine passed just east in October.

I don't see any years where 3 impacted the island. Wouldn't THAT be fun!

Hey Alexei27 ... are they going to retire Irene ? It will be mighty interesting argument .... for starters....

Person 1: Irene was just plain hype....
Person 2: Oh yeah, is that why they retired her name (rolling eyes) ?

All kidding aside, although I realize that the Media does whip everyone into a frenzy - I firmly believe that it's better to be safe than sorry.
