Can anybody suggest a good gas generator for a 4 bedroom house? I guess it all depends on how much watts I need?

Honda Power Equipment - Honda Generators - Wattage estimation guide

I have a Honda. I like it. They have a neat guide to help you figure out how much you need. Read the section on power management - EG don't just add up everything you have to power, since you won't need everything at once.

Depends on how many things you want to run.Wattage should be stated on any appliance you have ad them up and add 10% for safety.Getting a generator that will run on natural gas or propane at comparable cost will avoid having to store gasoline.MO

I wonder what, if any, age related performance degradation these generators experience. I know about PCs and those types of power supplies, how the output degrades over time. I've not seen a similar general consensus on generators though. My 5yo gasoline powered generator, I'm fairly sure it's no longer within it's original specs & parameters.

I have a very late 80s - very early 90s Honda 3500 watt generator and it just got me through 5 days of no power.

I want to buy a generator now also. Looking to hook up just my sump pump in the basement and the refrigerator. Someone told me a 3500 would be fine. I don't know the wattage for a sump pump however!

According to the instruction book for my Briggs & Stratton generator, the starting surge for a 1/3 HP sump pump is 1300 with 800 used once running and refrigerator is a 2200 surge and 700 when running.
