I grew up in Glendale(queens) My grandparents lived in Forest Hills and we would always go for ice cream at Eddie's Sweet shop. I took these photos in 2009 or 2010 not sure. Enjoy.
Never been to itgen's but always wanted to try it. I had that Chocolate egg cream because everyone raves that they are good. I did not like it believe it or not. But the dish of ice cream I had was very good. My dad gre up eating there as a kid. I am guessing this place is from around the 40's?

Eddie's is from the early 1900's and Itgen's in Valley Stream started in 1967 (though they had stores in other LI towns before that).
I love Eddie's. I haven't been there in years. I am glad that it is still open.
Itgen's became too inconsistent so I stopped going there a long time ago. But I used to go just about every weekend for many years. They used to make homemade peach ice cream. Is Walter still around?
Even if you don't eat there or don't care for ice cream, I highly recommend that you take a look at the window display during Easter time and see all the chocolate bunnies.
I am glad people still remember this place and that it is still in business. We as american have to keep supporting the local mom and pop stores (what ever is left of them)
I love Eddies, Too!! I used to live in Glendale, and we would always go to Eddies before the movies that's across the street.
