Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy Wednesday proposed a $2.7 billion budget for next year that would freeze taxes and lay off 709 county workers. But Levy said 464 of those jobs could be saved if unions make $31 million in concessions on health premiums.
But of course the unions will not cooperate:

Top union officials said they would not talk concessions with Levy.
The story about Mangano's layoffs was just updated today and guess what it says:
Quote:
Mangano said he is reducing the number of jobs by 1,010 positions, including some police. He said 300 already have been eliminated this year through layoffs and attrition
It's such a comical circular CF... The same people who want the budget reductions, smaller govt, etc will use the jobs numbers to continue the agenda against certain political leaders.
Guess what - laying people off due to budget cuts means more people without jobs! What a joke.
