Apparently several schools in the Bellmore/Merrick area are in lockdown; specifically mentioned was Lakeside Elementary in Merrick. This is due to police activity in the area with one suspect at large.
Home invasion in Bellmore, get-away car with out-of-state plates, three or four people. At least two in custody - supposedly four gunshots fired - one perp still on the loose in the general area...
The truth about home invasions is that they are targeted on specific people, not specific locations.
Exactly. This is totally some sort of targeted robbery. With all the affluence south of Merrick Rd, they invade a home in North Bellmore about 10 blocks from the NCPD Emergency Services stationhouse?! At RANDOM?! Puh-leeze. There was something specific they wanted in there, not grandma's silverware set.
IMHO. There will be more to this story OR it will get swept under the rug.

With home invasions, it is usually one of two things: drugs are being sold out of the house or the owner of the house has a business and shady employees and their associates think there's a safe full of money or some expensive merchandise in there.
They mention a husband/wife as some of the victims.
Then they mention more occupants of the house:
Quote:
Smith confirmed two of those transported were occupants of the house -- a man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s. The man had chest pains, Smith said.
Plus they talk to this guy living in a room located in the basement:
Quote:
Ghulam Sumra, 63, said he awoke to find a man towering over him with a knife.
At first, Sumra said, he wasn't sure who it was because it was dark in his basement room.
This is probably a business owner's home, possibly with some illegal flophouse style housing of staff ... or maybe just a passel of relatives piled in there. The criminals are probably shady employees/former employees and their associates who thought the business owner had money or goods stashed in the house.
