I just found out about this place. It's located in Bayshore by the Bayshore train station. It's like going to a big garage sale. They buy everything. I have some stuff that did not sell at a recent garage sale I had and I am bringing it there. I don't care how much I get for the stuff as long as it's not in my house. The place has been open 1 year. It's easier to sell it there because you don't have to take the time to set up and take down your own garage sale and it beats sitting in the heat all day. If you are into this kind of stuff I would check it out.
so I just got back from this place. What a waste of time! He said he does not buy books, did not want my dresses and the shoes were used and he would not buy them. It's a friggin garage sale store!!! He said the shoes had to be new and never worn. No website. I had a vacum cleaner the small kind you use to vacum your car with and he would not buy that either. He even said no to my roller blades. Damn waste of my time. I ended up donationg the books to the East islip Library and the dresses and shoes I donated to the local church thrift store.
well today is the 3rd and last day that I will try and sell the rest of my stuff with my neighbor at her garage sale, if nothing goes I may donate some more stuff and keep the rest. It's not alot but I don't feel like bringing it back in the damn house. I did sell a few things this weekend, made 60 bucks.
I've been to Pop's fairly recently and they are in the process of building a website. Pops Garage Sale- Long Island's Best Thrift and Garage Sale Store! They buy things that they are able to resell. I tried bringing clothes and he showed me his clothing section where they was selling clothing for $.49 per piece. Dresses and Blazers even. They gave me some store credit for the clothes and I picked up a cool counter top breadmaker. The manager told me they would even send a truck and some guys to help clean out household items we were looking to get rid of. Told me if I could bring it down, he may be able to give me some money for it, but to pay a few guys and truck rental to go clean out my house without charging me, he couldn't pay me for the items. He told me to call a junk service. I did and they told me they'd come clear out my house for $549. Definitely going to go with pops. Will let you know how that goes.
Books are hard to sell. No one is going to give you any money. Years ago, before ereaders, they always wanted to give you pennies....now they probably want them for nothing. Give them to a public library.
Too bad I didn't see this thread earlier. I just gave away several brand new pairs of shoes. Interesting about the books. I tried to give away some never read hardcover and paperback books to the library. Popular titles too, Dan Brown, Harry Potter. Eric Carl in perfect condition, but the library didn't want them. Maybe I can give the Eric Carl books to one of the public schools. I was really surprised that the library didn't want new Harry Potter hardcover editions for their children's library.
