While you may want to consider using a Buyer's Agent, you should not rush into (or be pushed into) signing an Exclusive Buyer Agency Agreement with anyone. Also, you should not have to pay them anything out of your own pocket. In most cases, the Buyer Agent fee is paid by the seller.
I signed up for one. He gave me the agrement to read over for a few weeks while we went out to view homes during the weekends. No pressure.
I am glad I signed with my Agent. He is very knowledgeable of the area, and know the ins-and-outs of all things real estate. He has more information about any listing than what's available on MLS, and keeps me well informed on every listing we see, before and after.
I'm so glad to have someone practically holding my hand through the entire process on my first home purchase.
All agents cost the same (or they should as Tom points out above). So make sure you pick the best one!
