We used them recently and were very happy. As the op stated don't cheap out on roofing or plumbing, you may regret it in the end. What kind of plumbing work are you having done? The owners name is John and he was recommended by the guy who installed our wood floors. Very professional, upfront about the costs and work done. They service Nassau and suffolk county.

Sears does roofing but they are expensive, I heard Babe Roof is good.

We can only guess where OP's roof and plumbing are, but in western Nassau I recommend Cornetta Bros in Elmont. Very reasonable but very good.

It happens all the time that people put things on this thread that really belong on the NYC forum.

Anyway, perhaps "inherent cheapness" comes from something else instead of geographical location.
