As I would have expected, you really don't know a hell of a lot about police disability pensions (what a surprise!) Fact is, in order to qualify for a line of duty pension from the NYS system, you have to be injured in some type of accident; and you have to be prevented from performing the duties of a police officer by that injury. Nowhere does it say that you have to be so disabled that you can't perform any work. That's the realm of social security disability. And receiving a disability pension system from NYS does not automatically entitle one to social security disability.
Hope you learned something today, Seinfeld.
yes, even if that type of accident involves falling at your second job as a non-licensed non-union carpenter. Heck, get hurt off the job and just show up to work and after your first call go down to the doctor and get approved for paid medical leave.

I'm sure someone as yourself with so much first hand information regarding these incidents has taken action and reported it to the proper agency.
Most likely though, this is just another " I know a (insert civil servant or union worker) who scammed the system" story.

One thing discussing them on a form that will not produce any action anyways, than actually reporting a family member or friend. Just because I don't want to do it doesn't mean I think it's right or doesn't happen.
If these incidents were not close people to me, I probably woun't know about it. Since it's people close to me I disagree but don't want to be a rat on family and friends. If it was someone I didn't know maybe I could be the rat and be able to sleep at night after I video tape the guy out on disability at age 32 and now works as a carpenter full-time. Or go running to the agency when I pulled my friends arm while play fighting in a bar and he went to work the next day and said he hurt it opening a fire hydrant and went out of work for weeks and went on a long vacation of fishing and hiking.

That doesn't mean it isn't true. I'm not sure how rampant this stuff is now, but back in the 70's and 80's it was relatively widespread from FDNY to NYPD. And yes, a relative of mine tripped while chasing a perp..after 6 years on the force at NYPD..and he moved out of state on an NYPD disability pension. All the while, he's playing softball, working on houses, moving furniture. I was about 8 years old at the time of the initial incident so excuse me for not calling the authorities on him. I also had 3 different little league coaches who were out on disability from NYPD and FDNY. They had no problems fielding ground balls and swinging a bat. Apparently it's an even bigger issue with the LIRR.
Just because you SAY it isn't true that this stuff goes on, doesn't mean that it doesn't.

You're just jealous you can't game the system like these heroes. Sounds like you made a bad career choice.

I know I should've just sucked it up and overlooked all the negatives that don't match my personality about the job and just went for it so I work in a job with so many loop holes to scam the system...I mean benefits.
One thing I don't understand is these individuals were allowed to retire on disability because there disability affected there ability to perform a narrowly defined task. Can't they do other jobs for the MTA? Learn a new set of functions that will provide value? I would think all avenues should be pursued to make this individual productive before even considering a disability retirement.
The same doctors work to help the FDNY as well. Bad apples spoil a bunch, as there are many legit pensioners collecting on a legit injury. There are also tons of FDNY that just before retiring go see a paid doctor to give them the disability approval. Greed runs everywhere, and they think why go out with a normal pension when I can pay for disability clearance and go out on 3/4 pay.
Too many people easily work the system in many of these unions.
I'm not naive to think no one has ever gotten over, but please show me the "tons" of scammers.
You don't get a disability pension as easily as going to the doctor of your own choosing and paying them to label you disabled. If you're going to give out information, al least give out correct information.

If it wasn't so easy, how were 90% of retired LIRR employees on disability? In any union, word gets around and the wheels of corruption are quickly greased up in order to work the system. Public employee unions are by their very nature designed to find loopholes, corrupt politicians, and milk the public. That is why FDR of all people found them dangerous and a threat to a functioning democracy.

LIRR is a different system than NYC.
Again people make broad accusations and state half truths about things they don't really understand. I'm not defending anyone who did wrong. They caught ten people, deal with them and any others.
