If you go out to eat -- you want to go somewhere you enjoy. Shore is irrelevant.

Let's be realistic in our answers. Living within close proximity to the Coliseum doesn't mean one is going to be frequenting Isles games or concerts. It might be more convenient, but that's it.

Exactly!

CD Wouldn't let me rep ya again!

I know, shore is irrelevant. I was using those examples because Lancet claimed they were more convenient out there...you should be asking him that.. he brought up pumpkin picking, better shopping/food and easier access to casinos. I just replied to it. TBH though, I think most would agree nearly everything else (besides wine tasting) gets more convenient (and a little better IMO) the closer you get to Nassau.

you don't think the majority of Isles season ticket holders live within a certain radius of the arena?

I disagree. When I lived further from the beach I would never go. It was just a p.i.a. to get there. But now I find myself going way more b/c its easy. The same thing with the local parks and restaraunts. I rarely find myself driving more than 10 minutes for a meal unless Im going to that area for something else.

I'm the exact same way. And we all know there's always someone floating around free isles tickets almost on a daily basis. An hour vs a 15 minute drive is definitely a deciding factor in the frequency someone will go (whether beach, restaurant or game).

And that radius could include NYC, NJ and CT -- season ticket holders can and do move about -- they aren't anchored to a location because it is close to their favorite team.

I inherited season tickets for the Jets and at the time lived further east than I do now. When I moved further west (and hence closer to the Jets) I gave them up because traffic sucked getting to the stadium.

Would you know exactly how many people attending the games are season ticket holders vs those who either bought tickets for a game, or those who were given tickets?

The deciding factor varies from person to person depending on their likes and budget.

If 'free'tickets were for a game one could not afford to attend, for a good team which tends to sell out, people would be willing to travel further.

I wouldn't go out of my way to buy Yankee tickets because I believe they are terribly overpriced, not because it is a long ride. If I were given free tickets I would go. I've been offered Mets tickets, but turned them down because I don't care for the Mets.

You seemed to be making the point earlier that living close to the coliseum is a non-issue with regard to the frequency of attending events there. Obviously there are exceptions, but it seems clear that most people going to the arena are more likely to be from Nassau/Western Suffolk than NJ or CT.

If you lived in Bergen County wouldn't you have been more likely to keep them? I have Giants seson tickets and I probably would attend fewer games if I lived a full hour east of where I do now.

Doesn't matter. If somebody calls you up last minute and says they have an extra ticket...you're a lot more likely to go if you live in Malverne as opposed to Mattituck.

I don't think this is that radical a concept....

My original point wasn't about season ticket holders but an array of activities, including, but not limited to, sporting events.

When people buy homes, they aren't looking to buy them because they are close to a particular restaurant, pumpkin farm or sports team. Those are variables and likely to change. I didn't buy my house thinking, "Great -- this location is 30 mins closer to Giants Stadium."

(To answer your question: Would I have kept my tickets if I had moved to Bergen Cty: NO. I moved where I did because it was most advantageous for my business. I would have lost everything had I moved to Bergen. Traffic wouldn't have been an issue -- finances would have.)

People on this forum try to point out the good points of an area by stating it's close to <insert activity here> while others counter that's it's far from <insert another activity here> when the reality is how often do we actually engage in the activities people are dickering over.

Pumpkin picking -- how many times a year? And does it really freaking matter if the farm is in Melville or Mattituck when all that matters is the kids are happy?

The bottomline is people buy what makes them happy and what they can afford. Chances are the person looking for a reasonably priced home further east is not going to have the budget to blow money at Peter Lugers several times a month, to buy tickets for the US Open, or engage in other costly activities.

I tend to agree, I find being one town North of Middle Island fairly convenient to everything but insofar as that town is Rocky Point it must suck by virtue of the resident Cyberbullies. ; ).

We honestly spend no time in Nassau for anything other than Islander games but we do drive through it on our way to Los Mess. There's really nothing there that can't be had in Suffolk or NYC more c

Still love Rocky Point and I think that anyone who thinks it's on the decline clearly never saw it in the 80s.
