Just thought i'd add that in.
doesn't it sort of depend on where you're leaving from?

Yeah, that's true. I know from the Suffolk Stations, it is always quicker.

Thats because there are sooo many stops on the Babylon Branch before Suffolk is reached (unless there is an express train of some sort). You have like 7 stops in Southeastern Nassau alone (which are all like a few blocks away from each other) that significantly extends the commute time.

luckily for commuters this is rarely a concern as there are many different express trains that bypass the nassau stations.

But Ronkonkoma is also at least 20 miles east of Babylon.....
If you are looking for speed to get to NYC... you need from Ronkonkoma:

6:24AM arrives Penn Station at 7:30 1 hr, 6 mins. Makes only 1 stop in Hicksville

Return fastest trip from Penn:

5:41PM arrives Ronkonkoma at 6:49PM, 1 hr, 8 mins. Makes only 2 stops, Hicksville and Central Islip

I don't think miles from Penn matter all that much. Trains on the Babylon branch can get into the city faster than the West Hempstead Branch--and W. Hempstead is a lot closer to the city.

Also, Babylon has express service that's faster than the Ronk branch>
6:09 AM 7:02 AM 53 mins Peak
6:12 AM 7:14 AM 1 hrs. 2 mins Peak

5:13 PM 6:20 PM Jamaica 5:56 PM 1 hrs. 7 mins Off Peak
6:06 PM 7:04 PM 58 mins Off Peak

Even if you compare like-distances, Deer Park vs Babylon is about the same... Massapequa vs. Farmingdale is about the same.

Any body have any input on South Bellmore? I found a great house there. Is it really as snobby as people say or could that just be someones personal encounters...I can't imagine the whole area is snobby. Is it a decent mix of catholics and jewish religions???
