I was told by a builder that what they do now is compare aerial shots. They overlay it on top of an older shot to see what has been added to a property. They can do a large area quickly that way.
Right. They also can use there x ray vision goggles to see inside the house and into the basement to check if its being lived in
lol. I don't really care...it was just always something I thought about
And the pool thing is smart. Good thing it took them 10 years to figure it out.
What is this? t3h InterwebZ?!
I think it's possible to own a house on Long Island without a town inspector ever entering it. I'm sure there are some homeowners who don't do anything to 'invite' them in. The house across the street from me was owned by the same people for 50+ years. I was in it once and I swear it was like walking into the 1950s. They did nothing to it at all.
Improvements on the outside are a different matter. Helicopters and google earth can spot that stuff. The inside stuff is no one's business - unless, like I said, the town inspector is 'invited' in.

I mentioned my parents deck earlier - about 10 years before they sold the house a town inspector came knocking and told my dad they'd done flyovers and they'd seen the deck in the yard. They wanted to see it. Dad said "NO". However, 10 years later when he sold he did have to deal with it.
Added to the property. Wasn't talking about the interior - try and follow along with the quoted, genius.
I understand, but I am just continuing to acknowledge the fact that they have no way of finding out about the interior - unless invited in like GPC already said.

Nope you can do whatever you want as long as you have a perfect CO to start with and never do anything that will invite the building department in OR incur the wrath of your neighbors.

Yeah. See how important it is to have good/be friendly with your neighbors!
A friend of mine out here in this island had a detached garage built, in addition to an attached garage, which in fact was an addition, and the original garage converted to living space (tough to follow?) Anywho, when we went for the final CO, they took out a google maps street view of his house and said they should be looking at three garage doors, not two. Also that his house was backwards from the plans on file. (his parents had the house built mirror image from the model)
To which I think he gave some tounge in cheek remark that he picked up the house and spun it around.
or maybe it's because Staten Island is the 'forgotten borough'.
There were two fires in Borough Hall, one I think in the 60's and the other some time earlier. MANY blue prints were lost to houses built prior to the 60's. If we could be so lucky here?
No an occupier, but not wasting my time on Wall St. I'm gonna start the OBD movement (Occupy Buildings Department)
