I voted to approve the admins $400k salary cause they threatened to take away the kid's plastic sporks at lunch and make them play football without helmets. What was I to do? I was terrified of the consequences!
I feared the thread would end up like this. It's just too easy! It's not just Suffolk PD. I just had dinner with a friend who makes $140k teaching 4th grade. We don't discuss it and she doesn't whine cause she knows my wife will reach across the table and slap her upside the head.
That's right Crooks. No sporks without a 47% tax hike. And don't even think about consolidation. No way are we using the same sporks as that damn Island Trees.
A very cogent point. If the person living in house A went to town hall, fill out the paperwork and got their house reassessed to reflect current market values and the person next door didn't, with today's market I can imagine there would be quite a swing there, too.

Plainview here, grieved my taxes, got deny letter 2 days ago. To be honest, it's not too far off... the "assessed value" (for the ranch they still think I have is in the low 400s) - it did go down with the times $20k in 1 year... but of course we have the tax rate that still manages to increase taxes.

That's nothing!!!
How would you like it if your school district threatened to change the football program from LIVE football to a fantasy football program if the taxpayers wouldn't pony up for enhancements to the health insurance program (at no additional teacher or administrator expense) to provide free cosmetic surgery because they're jealous that the Buffalo SD has it! (NOTE: it is true that the Buffalo city SD had cosmetic surgery on the health insurance plan and NOT just for reconstruction but for purely elective surgery such as peels and facelifts.)
Voting down a budget is cutting off your "kid's" nose to spite your face. Consolidating is fine if two districts want to do it. But both are meager attempts that do nothing to significantly lower taxes.
I got a question though... did I already pay the "school ('11/'12)" taxes at this point? When do I pay the '12/'13 taxes? It's likely lumped in and spread over mortgage payments, but what starts when? Trying to figure out which tax amount on mynassauproperty I'm paying this year...

In New York, you're paying forward. (In Texas, on the other hand, taxes for 2011 are due at the end of this month!)
If you're in Suffolk, your taxes are due by Jan. 10th for 2012/13 (Dec. 1, 2011 through Nov. 30, 2012.
Nassau County has seperate bills for General Taxes and School Taxes (I'm sure Pequaman will correct me if I'm wrong )

Nassau school taxes run from October 1 thru September 30. The first half is due October 1 but can be paid without penalty by November 10 and the second half is due April 1 but must be paid by May 10 for no penalty.
The General tax payment dates without penalty are in February and August.
