After extensive research and deliberation, my wife and I purchased our first home on LI, in the Middle Island area (north of 25). I want to thank all the information provided by everyone on the forum. I actually waited 6 months to post so I can at least have a sense of the area. Coming from Nassau it has been an adjustment but manageable. My son is attending West Middle Island and I'm content with the level of competency of the teachers. We're firm believers that education begins at home, so the home is an extension of my sons education. My son also has joined the Longwood Sports Association and is enjoying. To all the posters who had negative things to say about the area, I say thanks for your input. We purchased the house for $155K, are paying $475 per month in mortgage and have money left over to do some remodeling in the spring. Yes the area has some suspect characters on 25, but I don't live on 25, we're about 2 miles north so I don't let it bother me. If your looking to purchase I would highly recommend the area. Again thanks for all the input.

Theres some really beautiful areas of MI and Ridge(Horse Country) and some sketchy. Get active in your Civic get those Sober Houses out. Create the community you want. Be sure to stop in at the Cookroom http://www.insiderpages.com/b/152411...-middle-island if you havent already.

Longwood has a tremendous sports program and I know many engaged parents who are happy there.

Welcome to the area.
