Hi,
I need help with comparing carle place to dix hills both in terms of diversity/livability and school district. After a long search, I have narrowed down my search to two houses in these towns. The one in dix hills is about 10-15k more.i am looking for advice on which will be a better place to raise kids 2& 7 year old. Also how is the property appreciation rates in these areas.
Any advice is appreciated.

The School Districts are about the same quality but Dix Hills (Half Hollow Hills SD) come out on top since its known to offer a lot of services. Dix Hills is notably more diverse than Carle Place.

I would just choose which house you like better. You can't go wrong with either place. If you wanna be closer to the city, go with Carle Place. If you like the upper class lifestyle/ambience then definitely go with Dix Hills.

Two vastly different areas IMO. Where in Dix Hills would you be purchasing a house that is also in the price value of a house in Carle Place? Are you sure the home is in Dix Hills and not a neighboring area such as Wyandanch?

For the record, Wyandanch is not a "neighboring area" of Dix Hills. There is a whole nother hamlet located betwen Wyandanch and Dix Hills: That's one of the most common misconceptions on this forum. If anything, he should worry more about the Carle Place house and make sure it's not in Westbury School District.

the house in dix hills is on wolf hill road. Both the houses are in 700-800k range. The house in Carle place is updated with new windows, floors etc.
Thanks again...

One question to ask yourself is, does property size matter? The house you're looking at in Dix Hills (is it the short sale or the one with the pool?) has at least an acre of property. You're not getting that in Carle Place - but does it matter?

I like that area of Dix Hills. I'd not want to pay $700K for a house in Carle Place. You'll hold value in Dix Hills much better, IMHO. A $700-$800K house in CP is for people that have to have the biggest house on the block.

This is what confused me too. To the OP, I would never spend that kind of $$$ on a home in Carle Place. No way. Half Hollow Hills is a great district, I would go for that home anyday over anything in Carle Place. I think you would be overspending by $$$$ to spend 700-800 in Carle Place. Go for the Dix Hills home for sure. Wolf Hill Road is a very nice area, as most of Dix Hills is.

This I agree with this as a concern.

What school district is the Carle Place home in? Regardless, I would never spend 700-800 for a home in Carle Place.

spending 700~800K in Carle Place is way too much for that area. Why Carle Place? With 700~800K budget, go check out Garden City. Much better town that CP and DH in my opinion.
