OK folks.. let's keep this civil and not make general statements which cause arguments and then threads get closed. You can discuss this without those type of remarks

Very true, this is a big myth. In addition, in Nassau it takes 8 years to hit top pay now (as opposed to just 5 in suffolk).

It's not just at the top. Of course that's what some people want you to think, but "professional courtesy" is code word for corruption. Free catering because you hang out in your patorl car in a catering hall parking lot all night.....showing up to an accident scene and messing around with the accident report because one of the people involved is a cop wife...this stuff isn't as rare as some would like you to believe.

Yeah but most of the town/village PDs are pretty small. Most of the villages have less than 20 officers.

The largest in Nassau is Hempstead Village with 120 officers and the largest in Suffolk is Southampton Town with 110 officers. Not very big.

Indeed especially if the spouse or child of a cop is involved. It's actually quite common.

Irrelevant. The often-quoted myth in these threads is that Nassau PD is the highest paid department in the country. Not only is that not true locally, but there are other departments in the nation that pay their cops the same or more.

I really don't understand Mulveys explanation below, this was not just some minor incident and it happened on his watch. He should have been aware of the internal investigation as he should have also been aware of many of the other issues that went on onhis watch likethe crime lab.

"It's been my experience in 38 years of policing that there are many cases that come to the police department of this nature -- incidents at schools, involving kids -- that are handled civilly," Mulvey said. "The police may initially intervene, but a resolution is worked out between the parties civilly."

"The mission of the Nassau County Police Department Internal Affairs Unit is to preserve the reputation and protect the integrity of the Department, through prompt and comprehensive investigation of all allegations of serious misconduct by its members. In addition, the Internal Affairs Unit will seek to assure adherence to the highest standards of conduct by Department members, through various proactive inspections, audits, and other measures of compliance with Department rules and procedures.

This case was moved from internal afffairs to Hunters jurisdiction and Mulvey never questioned why or claims he didn't know. I would hope that there would be a report from internal affairs with their recommendation, since there was certainly an appearance of favoritism by the investigating officers. They just dropped the ball andMulvey wasn't aware?

The private investigator knocks on her door in the middle of the night, sounds rather odd since he could have attempted to contact her at the school.

Quote:
The principal of John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore took the stand to testify Thursday in the trial of the ex-Nassau County police commander accused of covering up a campus burglary for his friend.
Lorraine Poppe was one of five witnesses the jury heard from in the second day of arguments—but her testimony is pivotal for prosecutors trying to prove William Flanagan accepted bribes for helping nix the 2009 theft probe as a favor.
“We wanted to have Zachary arrested,” Poppe testified, referring to former student Zachary Parker, who pleaded guilty this year—after the alleged cover-up was exposed—to stealing more than $11,000 worth of electronics from the school.

“I don’t want any of this to come up at trial,” Barkett told the court, saying that prosecutors are “trying to make me look bad.”
Poppe had filed the complaint after Barkett’s private investigator tracked her last month to an address where she’s being staying since being displaced by Superstorm Sandy, knocked on her door in the middle of the night and startled her awake before leaving a note for her to call Barkett, according to Assistant District Attorney Bernadette Ford.
