Public workers are under attack right now. Sucks, though I should state- the unions have sold out this generation of newer employees.

They should have put their foot down, and taken more cuts to allow everyone fair wages.

Moderator cut: snip But it's true, public workers are under attack in general. At the county, state & federal levels.

Spanky ~ congress is considering extending it to 5 years now to fund other programs.

Folks, this is a local forum. Keep the discussion to the local issues and not the national level. Long Island. Not federal. Thanks.

How about reductions in retirement benefits - 401k matches slashed, health insurance up 5%+ annually, wage increase?, what's that? Job reductions - PLENTY!!!!! and still coming.........
Inflation? - according to the official line, we have none!

Be thankful you even have a job. While I wont mention my exact salary...I am also frozen at not that much higher than you...In these times, everyone needs to take what they can get and latch onto it because it isn't getting any better.

While this is true, it doesnt help....

All this ends up doing is making people use credit cards (for living, not socializing)....and compounding the issue.

Gasoline, Natural Gas, oil, electricity and insurance are not optional.

Those that have a job are all very lucky at this point, I agree.

But we shouldn't be complacent, especially those in the private sector IMO, because many companies are doing extremely well (and compensating their executives accordingly) while continuing to cut costs by slashing pay & benefits for their regular employees. Not to mention a goal of many companies today is getting as much accomplished with as little staff as possible, and working these employees to the bone.
