Does anyone know which spray paint colors stand for which utilities when they "tone mark" the streets? My late father worked for the phone company and used to point this out to me, but all these years later, I forget which is which. I ask now because I see new red and yellow marks on my block, which I'm really hoping means that FiOS is coming to the neighborhood!

Red is for electric yellow is gas, orange is for fiber optics.

All the mark outs you see just means that there is some digging that is about to happen in that area.

I am in a private development, so I think that is why FiOS is not in yet. The block just outside my development has FiOS, so it is not like they have to run the fiber that much further, but all the utilities are underground once they cross into this development. I inquired at the FiOS kiosk at the mall a couple of years ago, and the rep told me they have had trouble getting permission from some Homeowners' Associations to come in due to the digging involved, since streets are maintained by the HOAs, not the town.

I get these colors added on my street every year it seems, and there is never any digging, so it may be being done for something else. I just got the neon yellow marks all over my street last week. They always tie pink ribbons on my fence as well, that I promptly remove.
