My family is looking to buy a house in Nassau or Suffolk border to Nassau. We currently rent a house in Franklin Square. My son commutes to Hofstra University.

Our budget is 350k, i know most of the neighborhoods i would want to live in (Garden City, New Hyde Park, Franklin Square) are completely out of our price range.

Any idea on how west hempstead (specifically a house i looked at 522 Mulberry Ln). Any suggestions on locations with good neighborhood would be great (not to worried about School district since kids are in University although resale value is in the back of my mind).

Thank you for any help you can provide

Have you searched for any homes in the Franklin Square or New Hyde Park areas? There are a number of homes that fit your price range. West Hempstead is a great little area and there are many homes in your price range, as well. Many in the Malverne school district. Moderator cut: snip Good luck in your search.

I have actually looked in Franklin Square and New Hyde Park (Nothing at all in my price range). I saw a few houses in franklin square but they all needed major improvements (50k or so). I don't mind a fixer upper but when we need to invest an additional 50k its just completely out of our budget

I am concerned about the house i saw in West Hempstead (its close to the hempstead lake and woodfield road)

Are you sure that's the right address? Internet says it's off the market. No pictures and doesn't list # of bedrooms.

That budget can't be out of your price range in FS unless you are looking for a big house. I bought my house in FS 3 years ago and paid less than that. It doesn't need tons of work but just updating. I checked MSLI Long Island and there's quite a few homes in your budget. West Hempstead wouldn't be my 1st option, especially when it's time to re-sell. Drive around the area and you decide. Sometimes it's best to see rather than getting too many different opinions.
