If it is for a girl, I have given them American Girl dolls. For a boy, I would say $100. Depends on how well you know them.
UUUGGHH....make sure she's a "doll girl" if you go that route. My girl would rather have a basketball. And cold hard cash is good for anyone. I think $50 is fine unless you are very close to them. Not your problem they are having an extravaganza at a catering hall.
But anyone who is throwing a communion party at a catering hall has to be Italian through and through.
$500 if you know whats good for you.
Could that be any more of a stereotypical comment? Yes, Italians throw communions at catering halls. And? I've been to non Italian communions at Russo's On the Bay. I've been to communions in the backyards of my very Italian relatives.
Hmmm...aren't all bar/bat mitzvahs at catering halls too?
OP, give what you can afford. I don't know any anyone that gives dolls. I've never given a doll even if the child was a "doll" type of girl. Money, savings bonds or reasonable jewelery items are fine. How many people in your family are going? You don't want to give $50 if you have a family of 4 going. If this isn't even close family or friends, I wouldn't bother going and just send $50.
