I'd agree that CSH is slightly better than Harborfields academically, but the homogeneity in CSH is a downside.

I live in Greenlawn but wouldn't pay 1.2 million. I agree if you are in that range go to CSH for the district. It also depends what you want. CSH, Huntington Bay, Centerport have that true North Shore/New England feel. Hilly, tons of trees etc. Greenlawn is flatter more suburban feeling so it depends what you want.

We moved from Halesite for the schools. Higher taxes but can send 2 kids on those taxes as opposed to Huntington taxes and Catholic Schools. We miss our old neighborhood from a feel standpoint but from a functional standpoint with kids, good schools, flat streets with a ton of kids, Greenlawn has been great.

I'm a Harborfields resident, but I wouldn't necessarily look in CSH district just because I could afford to purchase a 1.2 mil home.

There are also some beautiful areas of Greenlawn, like near Old Field Rd and Arbutus Rd. And some don't find the "hills" as a positive. I know we wanted flat, usable property.

This tidbit might surprise you from today's report.

CSH #22 out of about 650 NY public schools
Search New York High Schools | US News

Harborfields # 36 out of 650 NY public schools:
Search New York High Schools | US News

Not sure if you need to update your opinion as to which one is 'better' given the virtual tie between these two.

BTW - CSH seems to be the "whitest" school district in New York State if the data is reliable and has to have the least 'economically disadvantaged' students in New York State with a whopping 0.4%. By contrast, Locust Valley (#20 out of 650) has 10 times the number of economically disadvantaged students of CSH with a rate of 4.0%. And 6 times the minority population. And that is Locust Valley!

So, richest and whitest, CSH is the winner. By far. Academics, a virtual tie with Harborfields.

I hear what everyone is saying about my comment about a "better" school district; that's why I put better in "".

IMO, Harborfields, CSH, HHH and even Commack are very close academically and are all good.

Thanks for all the helpful comments. We looked in CSH also (we cannot pay 1.2m in either district) and found that everything was super expensive and still had issues (small lots, bad condition etc.). We heard great things about Harborfields so we moved our search into Greenlawn. Seems like you can get more for your money outside of CSH. And we have not heard anything bad about the school. The dangerous areas people mentioned in the thread bother me a little but I assume they can really just be avoided.

FYI the area is not "dangerous." There are minorities there but there is no violent crime. If you subscribe to Newsday you can look at the crime reported anywhere back as far as a year and my quick research didn't indicate any more or less crime in "that area."

There's a nice house for sale at Arbutus Court for 700K; is that in your price range? There is a small ranch in a really nice area on Tanglewood Court, that is asking like $450.

There might not be "violent" crime but it definitely is not the best area. A few months back a man in a van tried to abduct a girl in that area. We in Harborfields and the Elwood district were notified. If you look at sex offender websites although there are not a ton in the area they tend to be down that way or a little further south towards Park Ave.

If you are going to move into the town, just do your homework and drive around. I would say the closer to Pulaski if not north of Pulaski and you are safe. The further east of Broadway the better.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I am looking at a house on bowdon rd in greenlawn. Wondering if anyone had any information about the area. It seems really nice but I'm a bit confused about some things I have heard about greenlawn on this forum. Thanks for any information.
