We are thinking of moving to Greenlawn and are looking at houses on and around Stratford. I have read mixed things on this site about Greenlawn and wondering what kind of area this is? We have two small children and we are really looking for a family friendly, safe neighborhood to raise them. Are there areas that are really not safe and what are they? Is there gang or drug issues in any parts? Wondering also because all of Greenlawn goes to the same Harborfields school (which we know is rated really well). Thanks!

I'm assuming you're talking about the street off of Stony Hollow. That area is completely fine. Safe and well kept. The areas you should be concerned with are the areas further west by New York Ave and Depot Road.

I moved to Greenlawn South of Pulaski on Naples. It is perfectly safe. I am not familar with your street other than where it is but I have found the streets around the schools and Paumanack Retirement Village are fine. We have friends over on Savings Court which is North of Clay Pitts and 2 streets west of you and it is really nice. You should be fine. The only thing I would check is to see if Stratford is used as a cut through street. If it has double yellow lines it could mean fast traffic which might not be great with kids.

This is our first year there. Our daughter is in first grade at Washington Drive. No problems so far. Very friendly neighbors. Couldn't speak of Middle School or High School but our neighbors have children in Leahy which is behind my house and she said it was fine.

Stratford Ae area is very good.

stratford ave, greenlawn, ny - Google Maps

Stratford Ave itself isn't used as a cut-through. Beatty ave and francis drive are more direct routes.

Harborfields schools are excellent.

Greenlawn area is very good in general with the exception of the area around Little plains & Broadway.

Stratford is fine. I was just running in that neighborhood this morning, as my kids go to school nearby. I really like that part of Greenlawn. We live in Greenlawn and have 2 young kids.

if you are looking at the house on stratford that is listed at 1.2 million and you have that kind of budget i would look into cold spring harbor. just as nice, if not nicer, and a "better" school district.
