Non-toxic and effective. Agway has a spray that attaches to the garden hose. It is called Ecosmart and I have used it for the last 2 summers. Very effective. Even on chiggers in my yard. We need to lighten up on the toxic chemicals. Not only are they bad for the environment but they are poison to us and our pets!!! I educate all the people I come into contact with at my job!
One other thing: I used Borax around the perimeter of my house and it stopped ants from coming in. I assume it has stopped other bugs from setting up camp around my house too.
I did use them (not knowing any better) until one my previous dogs got cancer. I started reading up about that stuff and have avoided it ever since when I found out that it essentially makes the dog poisonous (which is what kills the insects).

My two current dogs, I give garlic supplements (the same ones I take: Kyolic) and both are flea free. When I take them on walks on spray this all natural stuff on them to repel fleas that may be lurking from other dogs :-)

And you are right, our environment is very toxic and I think that accounts for the increase in cancer in both humans and pets.

Thanks for the additional tips! Looking up that Agway stuff now

Thank you everyone for all the information. I am going to stay away from the pesticide spraying and go with one of the safer options listed...maybe the ecosmart or mosquitobarrier which seems to be the garlic spray that comes up when I google.

I'd be interested in hearing more about the plants. Are there some plants that I can just grow in pots in my backyard or do I have to actually plant them?

Good Choice!

Here are some links for the plants/herbs. You can either plant in beds, say around your deck or patio or in containers that you place on your patio or deck.
