Can people share home insurance rate increases in 2012 compared to 2011 for areas in more "coastal" areas in Suffolk County? I just received my renewal and the rates increased massively year-over-year.

We're with State Farm for a house that's roughly 2100 sq. ft and roughly 1 mile from the water as the crow flies - approximately $1600 for the year which includes about a $560K for a rebuild.

that seems pretty cheap, whats your deductible?

I have 2500 sf with a $2500 ded and the premium is almost $2150. Can't remember the exact replacement value but is around the same range.
0.6 miles from LI Sound as crow flies.

Wow. Those rates are much lower than my renewal and I am at a similar home size and about 2-2.5 miles from the water. Rate is up about 50%. JonnyTrees - who is your policy with?

Tower Insurance. I recently got a quote from Kemper Insurance for home, auto and umbrella, came out to the same as what I'm paying for Tower plus Geico for auto/umbrella, so didn't end up switching.

My insurance agent told me that Kemper isn't writing new home policies in Suffolk county?

I was quoted in January 2012 for the bundled coverage of home, auto, umbrella. Were you looking to bundle with Kemper or just homeowners?

They are going to remarket my whole policy with auto and umbrella. Hopefully it will come back lower...

Last year ours went up from 1600 to 2100, so we upped the deductible and it came back to 1600.
