It must be hard having summers off, weekends off, holidays, spring recess, winter break, one year off maternity leave, snow days, minimal contribution to pensions and healthcare....... On the other hand, working on those tan lines in the summer could be draining. Remember your senior year in high school. It's like that except getting paid hundred thousand or more.
I know a handful of teachers and their salary is public information... they're next to 6 figures... they are well-compensated and I do believe they work hard when they have to, but they also have the free time we believe they do. The "rest of us" aren't guaranteed a pay raise of even 1 cent in any given year and some of us aren't close to 6 figures, yet we work hard, learn our skills on our own time, etc. as well. I'm a developer and have to keep up with multiple languages, and work OT. We don't have a union to stand behind (and I'd think they're wrong anyway). Simply put, enough is enough. You guys are fine. We don't want to hear the sob stories - to be honest, most of you guys can take what you're getting and smile about it, but don't throw it in our face nor cry about it (not saying all do).
The contingency budget makes it clear what will be excluded, as I posted in the OP. Does it directly affect our kids? From what it looks like, it won't hurt if we vote NO for a few years.
EDIT>> On that note, my district passed "easily" 2-1. Should I even bother next year?
Quote:
The new budget represents a modest 2.2 percent increase in overall spending. It maintains all staff and programs. The plan would convert two part-time teachers into full time positions and expand the district's Chinese language program.
The tax levy, the amount to be raised through property taxes, would increase by 2.5 percent. That figure is well under the state’s so-called "tax cap," which is derived from a complex formula and changes from district-to-district.
Joy, a chinese language program... I'm glad that's one of the main highlights of the extra $3mil we're giving.
Parents I know are freaking out at 3V.
Theyre threatening to cancel K plus sports at Murphy and Gelinas.
This ones gonna get ugly down the stretch, apparently the rain didnt scare the seniors away.
Mt Sinai failed too. RP barely squeaked by the cap at 62%. 7 of the 9 fails were looking to pierce.
Yeh! My local school budget passed! I'd like to take a minute out of my morning and thank all of my lemming neighbors (the vast majority of whom are probably only government educated themselves) for supporting the public sector leaches that have perfected the art of going through life sucking off the teat of their neighbors via property taxes. Job well done everyone!
There was very limited turnout in my area compared to years past. I voted no today, as I always do. I don't have any respect for the institution or the government-employed parasites that run it. I'm a firm believer in the simple fact that government only does TWO things well: attract incompetence and foster inefficiency.
If you are voting NO just on the basis of voting NO because you feel like being a dissenter then you are part of the problem. if everyone who voted actually looked at the numbers and took some time to go over them and then voted yes or no it would be more helpful.
Voting yes or no while being uninformed is just making you a sheep or a black sheep

No doubt their government education taught them the difference between leech and leach.
