Me and 2 other guys found a nice house to rent. It is nice and spacious and we are probably going to take it if credit checks all come back good and stuff. The deal is that I would pay a little more and get the master bedroom and my own bathroom , while the other 2 guys share a bathroom and get the 2 smaller bedrooms. Then we share the big living room and kitchen and dining room. The master bedroom I would be getting is basically big enough for a queen sized bed and a full sized couch and coffee table set up in it with plenty of room, so it is significantly bigger than the other 2 bedrooms. Im just wondering how much is it worth to get a bigger bedroom and own bathroom?

like for example lets say rent was 2000 a month, would a split like - I pay $750, guy with 2nd biggest room pays $650 and 3rd biggest room pays $600 be fair? Then we split up utilities and cable evenly? Or in this example, should I be paying more or less than $750?

your numbers at 37.5%, 32.5%, 30% are ok, but frankly you should be paying much more with your own bathroom which is a big deal. They'll probably go for those numbers though.

If I were one of the roomates with a smaller bedroom I would suggest an 800/600/600 split at best. Remember, it's not just the size of the bedroom but your own bathroom as well. BUT, if they are happy with the splits you gave then that is fine. Just make sure everyone is happy before you move in otherwise resentment could follow which could lead to an uncomfortable living situation.

ok i guess i'll probably be in the 35%-40% range, sounds ok. Its just kinda weird cause the bathroom and bedroom id be using is upstairs, and one of the other guy's bedrooms would be upstairs also, but he would have to use the downstairs bathroom. Does that sound weird, he said he has no problem with that, but should i feel like an ass by saying no i want that bathroom to myself? im a guy by the way, if this screen name is making anyone think im a girl, so im not really picky about sharing a bathroom, but if im going to be paying more than the 2 of them, should i feel entitled my own bathroom if they are offering i ?

I hear they will turn down potential renters if they use the colloquialism "and stuff"

The fair way to split the rent is to bid on the master bedroom between the 3 of you. Whoever is willing to pay the most gets it for that price (700, 800, 900 whatever). Then the other 2 pay what is left.

I like the bidding idea.
