I work in the suffolk area and SCPD are NOT standing by and doing nothing. They do patrol a lot and they do have bike cops and foot patrol offices walking up and down ny avenue 110. The huntington Station library on NY avenue has police cameras that feed directly into the precinct pointed at NY avenue.

The problem is more with money. they only can do soo much with what money they have. This very board complains about the polcie taxes they pay yet complains about gangs.

Keep in mind that deporting all illegal immigrants would not eliminate MS13 nor solve our gang problems. More and more of them are US Citizens.

The issues of illegal imigration continue to this day, rather than blaiming one individual/era it's safe to say all have been guilty. That said how about a policy that expedites deportment or imprisonment if applicable for those illegals that are breaking the law??? As an added bonus we can make the conditions in the prison comporable to what their native county provides.. .

I am sure the ACLU would love it....

We have fully devolved into only playing the blame game at every level... In everything, it's about who's fault it is. Like having someone to blame makes the problem "solved"? or better yet, make it about something that has nothing to do with anything as a distraction (i.e. birthers). It's ludicrous what our politics have become...

The density of suburbs like LI are going to really work against them in regard to gangs. These immigrant kids can't get home and they're not getting picked up for day labor at 7-11 anymore. It's not hard to see what's going to happen.

The argument is about how much individual cops make, not how much is spent on policing. We should be able to field twice as many cops as we do for what is paid out.

That being said I don't blame the police for the gang problem...it's largely routed in illegal immigration over the last 20 years, and a big part of that problem is Salvadorans. Most Salvadorans are hard working people, but too many young Salvadoran men are in gangs or gang affiliated.
