I'm looking for the best sliced bread you can get locally. I'm on a quest for the best plain white loaf.
I understand people have their preferences, so I'm interested to hear your favorites if it's other than plain white, but please no Heros or rolls this time around. This thread is for sliced sandwich breads only. Thanks.
In your opinion, where is the best place to get sandwich bread? Name your brand, type of bread, and location. It doesn't have to be baked locally, just locally procurable.

Have you tried making your own? White bread is not that hard to make.
It depends on what's going on the sandwich to determine the bread.
I know they might have a bad rep, but the actual store brands (King Kullen bread, etc) are excellent most of the time and super convenient. They've really improved. It seems to me that they are fresher than the big name brands (Wonder, ditaliano, etc) and usually cheaper. I usually get the 12-grain for most sandwiches. They make an excellent white bread as well. Or you could also try your local deli...maybe even Panera would sell you their bread.

I agree. If you are talking about plain white bread I use Target's own brand. I don't like white bread, but my very picky eater will only eat Wonder and Target brand. At $1 a loaf the Target is cheap and very, very rarely is it not extremely fresh.

The Target one seems cheap. It's way too thin compared to other store brands.
Shoprite usually has theirs around $1 almost all the time.
^^ Arnold's is a good one. I've never tried Target's bread. I think Costco, Target, et al, getting into groceries really motivated Shoprite/A&P/Pathmark/KK to improve the quality of their store brand products (America's choice, Food Club etc).
