Was having a discussion with my future mother in law who insists that a permit isn't needed to have a garage sale in Levittown.

I couldn't find any information on the web about this, so I figured someone on here would know.

It was always my understanding the a permit is generally needed no matter where you live.

Anyone know?

I dont doubt that you might need one, but I highly doubt anyone gets one.

I don't think you do. I just looked at the Town of Hempstead town code and didn't see anything on it, and here is a link to the Town Licenses and Permits Page and there is nothing on there about garage sale permits, which I would think would be one of the more popular types of permits if required. Probably just a matter of time though...

Never heard of it. Please don't give Town of Hempstead any ideas. They'll slap a fee on it so fast heads will spin!

I wouldn't worry about like someone said by the time anyone complains it will be over with. Most people think of it as the cost of living in suburbia

I think in Garden City I looked into it once it was like $5 anyway, so it's not like you'll get a huge fine if you don't comply.

You're probably referring to the code of the Village of Garden City, though, which wouldn't apply in Levittown. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the local villages required permits for kids' lemonade stands.

So Ragazza, are you going to have a garage sale or are you just curious?
