Looking for some companies that do installs, Nassau/Suffolk border.

Called one, got a $500 quote, site unseen for a 1,200 CFM Home Depot fan.
Had another one come by the house, 1,800 CFM fan + 2 additional vents - $1,600.

Anyone have companies/prices to compare?

Thanks.

Attic fan? - Is this one that gets installed on the roof and has an electric fan to draw hot air out of the attic?

If it is, then you may be better off having a ridge vent installed - it might be cheaper and requires no electricity.

I dont have a place to recommend, but an attic fan is great. When we rented we were on the second floor with no AC. The attic fan was awesome in regards to cooling down the apartment in the summer. BUT, it does take a lot of electricity to do so. I would say it costs the same to run an attic fan as it does an AC, but they do work great.

As much electricity as a air conditioner? ....maybe a window unit.

A large attic fan is 120 volts, 8 amps = 960 watts.
A ac unit is 16-18 amps.(4 ton unit)

Roof fans are worth every penny. Average install should be about $400 not including parts and materials.

I think there is some confusion between an attic fan and a whole house fan.

A whole house fan usually is installed on the top floor of a house and is mounted in the ceiling and draws the hot air through the hosue into the attic.

An attic fan I believe is mounted in the roof and exhausts the attic heat out of the house.

we have one and it does make a significant difference in cooling the second floor.

that being said, i didn't have it installed, came with the house. so i can offer you this website - ServiceMagic.com | Get Matched to Top-Rated Remodelers, Plumbers & More - i've used it for almost 10 yrs and have always gotten sound estimates. we move a lot with the navy and i've used them in almost every duty station.

good luck!

Find a good local handyman, I bet the install cost will be less. It is not a lot of work to install one. And this reminds me, I need to install mine!

Whole house fans are good if you dont have ac or when its below 70 degrees.

Sucking in 85 degree air is hot no matter what.

The product looks great (on the website), but seems extremely expensive.
