i live in town of oyster bay, moved in end of december. anyone when when/how/where to apply? I don't seem to be able to get a definitive answer. Thanks.

You missed the deadline. If you submit now, it won't apply until your 2014 taxbill.

You can apply any time. Unfortunately you missed the most recent cut-off, on January 1st, so the effective date of your STAR reduction will be delayed another year

I marched into our Town Hall in Huntington and filled out the STAR form on the spot. Office help made me a copy of it - good thing they did because the office conveniently "lost" our application. I didn't find out about the "loss" until almost a year and a half later when I went back into the same office in person and asked them if we were going to get the STAR credit. They claimed I never filled out a form. Of course I went back with the proof.

My brother recently moved into a house so I called TOB and they said this is true, but your discount is applied from the previous owner's application if it is [still] in place. So not all is lost.

To the OP, the best answers are those given by the town employees at the various departments... I've come to find this out over the years... surprisingly very helpful people even if some are grumpy.
