I'm looking to volunteer on a dig/restoration work and was wondering if there are any organizations doing any archeological work in Suffolk Co.

I already checked-out the Smithtown Historical Society and they're more of a social society (as is evident by the poor condition of their facilities).

I will be doing a "dig" along my foundation where we will be removing some ancient specimen trees (AKA: overgrown shrubs). Any goodies you find while "digging" are yours to keep. Care to join in?

Been there; done that. But if you come across a pre WWII trash pit let me know. When we dug the basement for an addition we hit a trash pit with a license plate, tableware, and glass bottles I dated to the early 1940's.

I have to look up my schedule for July -- that looks like it could be a great experience.
