Where's the job? Do you have to live in Nassau?

I grew up in Westbury. Trying to find a studio for $1000 in that area is going to be iffy. I am sure you don't want to look for a place in Hempstead area.

You may have to go further east.

There are apt buildings around but I can pretty much guarantee you aren't going to find something suitable for $1000. You might have to live in a house. I lived in Fairhaven Apts in Mineola a long time ago (over 10 years ago) and a 1 BR back then was $1000 - there were no studios. LI is expensive.

There are no gangs in Bellmore, the other stuff unfortunately happens everywhere....except for kids getting pushed in front of a train, but I'm sure if that was true I'd have actually heard about it on the news or through the many people I know who live there.

The weirdest part of that deal was when the Christian fundamentalist preacher from another state decided to come here with a few of his minions and picket on the grounds that he was against homosexuality. Remember that guy?
