For anyone on here living in the Nesconset and general Smithtown area we organized an online petition to help block the proposed zone change/garden apartments proposed for Lake Ave. South. Spread the word. Thanks!
Story Book is the builder, and they are trying to get a zone change to drop single bedroom apartments right in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It's being fiercely opposed by everyone in the area, it's the wrong spot for this development. Basically, Story Book is taking a bath with the poor housing market and wants to make a profit on everyone else's back.

I may be missing something but don't apartment buildings belong is residential zones.
No, Kay, they do not. The location would need to be zoned specifically for the apartments/high density buildings. Not sure where you live, but perhaps you would like this built next to your home? Perhaps let your kids wander around the parking lot of a single bedroom apartment complex?
Oh yeah..whats wrong with apartments? Where are all the Pro Renter CDers on here? They should come out in support for more housing for Long Island non tax paying leeches.

If Story Book instead proposed an 'affordable' housing development (high density on very small lots) on that same property, would the neighbors still be up in arms?
Not as aggressively, and I do not believe they would require a zone change. Someone else stated at the initial hearing that instead of building large homes, smaller homes on 1/4 acre lots should be built. But let's be real here: there's no way any new home built in this area is going to be considered "affordable" by the general public. The taxes alone on new construction.......
