We had an offer accepted on a house and the home inspector said the 20 year old wood deck is completely shot and needs to be replaced. I'd like to ask the seller for a concession equal to the cost to tear down the old deck but don't have the slightest idea of what that might cost. The deck is approximately 27 x 16.

1 week if you include removing the footings.

I would say $2000.

Don't have a clue as to cost but be sure to include carting away the debris.

Offer to let a bunch of college kids have a keg party, hand them a bunch of sledgehammers, rent a dumpster and you could git 'er done for about $550.

We removed a deck about that size but ours was in fairly good shape. It cost 2 sawzall blades and electricity to run the sawzalls plus $100 to landfill the footings and boards we didn't reuse for something or other. We reused the wood for a small shed and as pavers to the shed.
