These days you'd have to wonder if Conn. would want it and how it'd benefit them.
New England didn't want the bridge/tunnel the first go round.

If there were one - either tunnel or bridge, I wonder what the toll would be?

I think they'd want it less now that defense and aviation are pretty much gone. I used to make the trip from Melville to Conn three times a week and those bridges would sure have been nice, but now I don't think there are industries in common between the two regions as much as back in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's.

If it does ever happen (I doubt it will though), I think either Fort Salonga or Port Jefferson would be a good place for it. Fort Salonga because it's centrally located. Port Jefferson because it would be a straight shoot to Bridgeport and I think that'd be a pretty decent place to connect the bridge to.

A couple years ago there was a company trying to do the tunnel again, this time from the end of the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway and ending somewhere by the Hutchinson Parkway. It was a good idea, but of course the residents that would have been above the tunnel on the LI side are the wealthy areas of Nassau, and wanted nothing to do with that. The idea lasted 6 months, and then died like the rest of them.

It would be an economic boom for both long island and ct. Just consider how it would make it easier for businesses to expand and for people to get jobs from either side.

Too bad it will probably never happen.

There are jobs on either side?

It would bring way more traffic to Long Island I feel... And extra toll money I already can't afford. It would be convenient but too costly I feel and I would rather have my money go elsewhere.

What would be the purpose? Is there truly a significant industry on the island to warrent this kind of expense or would it just be a convienence for those that live there?

I am still waiting for the Thruway to build an adequate bridge to replace the TZ bridge....

$1,000? It costs what, $14 to cross the Verrazano and that's been there 50 years. They did FINALLY take out the eastbound toll plaza though!
