Newbie here. I'm looking to move from Queens to Long Island. I don't know too much about Long Island so hoping you guys can point me in the right direction.
My criterias are:
*walking distance to LIRR
*Less than 40 minute train ride to penn station
*good but necessarily top schools
*safe surrounding
*under $400K house and $12K/annum tax
Lot size is not important since ANY yard space is a great improvement to what we have now (which is NONE).
Walking distance to the lirr should not necessarily be a factor in selection of a town. Pick the town first then attempt to find a house close to the lirr. No towns just straddle the lirr.
We'll need a minimum of three bedrooms. Walking-distance to LIRR is a must because my nanny has to take the train in from queens every day and I'd lke to make her commute as painless as possible. Thank you.

Where does she live in Queens? It just may work out to be a rather cumbersome commute for her to use the LIRR.
Plenty of cabs by the lirr stations. Do you really want her to walk in the rain and snow. If you can afford a nanny, you can spring for some cab vouchers.
She lives in flushing and her family does have a spare car for her, but or some reason she'd rather use public transportation. It's an old family friend who's in her fifties who's been helping us since our kids were born. She'll continue helping us full days until our kids are both school age. In addition my husband and I leave for work at different times and we only have one car. So it is really important that we're close to the train to avoid all the cab fares we'd need to pay. Plus we're city folks, so I think we can handle walking two three blocks in rain or snow.

Flushing is on the Port Washington LIRR line. What other station could she use?
