I haven't seen them near me yet, but after reading this thread I won't be surprised if I do.
You see a lot of this stuff out of state in the "suburban" areas. I've seen it in suburbs of Florida, New Orleans, Las Vegas, etc.
As stuff like Sonic and Denny's "finally" moved into our territory ... so does other out of state customs like begging in the streets. Nice. Is America becoming Kolkata West?

Wasn't Denny's on Long Island a long time ago? For some reason i'm thinking that this is not the first time Denny's came to LI.
I think i saw the same people! He was holding some kind of sign and there were a few costco sized boxes of food next to them. I'm sure someone bought them something
I'm the kind of person that likes to initiate a conversation with these types of people, and get their life story.
The real homeless have all day to talk up and down about the lottery, alcohol, government, cigarettes, women, war. The scam artists don't have the time of day to even try to come up with a sob story that can stand on its own.
They are always outside of Trader Joe's in Merrick. I saw them out east as well...how are they getting all over the island if they're broke?
Making the rounds to try and score big. Pathetic! In the city, they are sleeping on sidewalks, with shoeboxes used for money collection. First there was one, now there is a whole multitude of them.
I think there is more than one of these families with children and signs. My neighbor saw a family outside of the Bayshore shoprite 3 weeks ago, She went back inside to let them know and they told her they are not allowed to give them any food. She was concerned for the children. The answer she got was "we can't give them food but you can".
Saw this same family this past weekend - Target in Setauket. Did not have time to react as I drove by, felt guilty that I did not stop.
Not sure what the real story is - middle class looking family, white, blond, well dressed, clean, 2 small children.
