I need to know what are the cool/edgy/hip/towns to live in Nassau County for young couples & young families in late 20's early 30's. Looking for good school district for my son, cute restaurants, boutiques and a semi-easy commute to the city. I am moving from Brooklyn and nervous. Budget is 600k. HELLLLLP!

Long Beach...that's it for the cool/trendy/hipsterbike riding/starbucks guzzling crowd.

Good school district you are probably looking at Rockville Center - close as you'll come to best of both worlds. Not sure what $600K gets you there these days.

NONE, NONE, NONE! Long Beach is as close as you MIGHT find, but it aint Billyburg or Park Slope by a million miles. Then again, I was a noise rock hipster and I can't imagine bringing up the kid in Bklyn or Manhattan. Get out to the Island, coach a league, get fat. It's the law. Besides, we need more hardcores to neutralize the nimby blue hairs out here. My friends from P. Slope moved to Lancaster, PA where they could get alot of house for less. I think the Amish are just slightly less hip than Long Islanders. Very slightly.

I think Sea Cliff is cooler or what have you than Rockville Center. Much nicer place to bring up kids that's for sure.

There are home possibilities within your budget.

Class sizes at SC Elementary are small........very involved PTA.........

One square mile of cuteness - that's Sea Cliff.

Yes...but does it have enough Starbucks? Do the clothing stores stock skinny jeans? Do they have hat stores selling porkpie and slouchyhats?

These are important things for someone wanting to be cool.

and Tofu? available in the stores?

I can't attest to Tofu in Rockville Centre, but there might be a couple of places you can score some pulled pork, but not in a pie.

Your 1980's version of hip is pretty funny. Starbucks is actually a suburban "hip" joint. Urban dwellers in trendy areas have much better coffee shops (and even old school luncheonettes which we haven't seen in years) . Skinny jeans are at JC Penny. Hats? Target. You are revealing yourself as the blue hair I feared your driving hinted at!

RVC draws many people there to spend their weekend evenings even from far away. Can Sea Cliff say the same? Also can you explain how Sea Cliff is a much nicer place to raise a family?
