Husband works in Long Island City, Queens and we live on long island. Want to buy a house, BAD!! But, obviously, so expensive. Anybody know a place affordable ( can go up to about $150) we can buy a modest house...my husband doesn't mind traveling up to about 50 miles or so.
Thanks for ANY advice!!

You can get a great house in upstate ny for $150k, but I doubt you will find anything like that anywhere south of Albany. I'm not as familiar with the areas around Poughkeepsie and Kingston. I'd imagine they are more affordable too, but that's still probably far away.

The nearest to the NYC area in your price range is upstate NY north or west of the catskills..

Even a small one bedroom co-op in Queens starts near $300,000 these days and the apartment is in un updated 'as in condition'

LOL - this was from 2006. I did buy my Condo in Douglaston/Queens in 2005 for 240k...was 650 sq feet of living large, lol...but did have a parking spot and patio. Sold a few years later for 312k...aaaah those were the days.
