You must have missed his extreme criticism of public school lunches or eruv construction.

Rest in Peace Mr. Greenspan....
or his "oil speculation" bashing... he'll straighten your arse right out on oil prices.
or his financials savvy... a history buff...
or his politics... hard line conservative.
He was quite active here outside the geography scope, just not known for it. Many a run in with Mr. Greenspan myself over the years and I think we were all lucky to have his contributions to the forum (even when I rarely agreed with his opinions).
RIP Walter and know you've helped many folks with the confusing Lawn Guyland municipalities.
Did anybody here ever meet Walter in person? Id be curious to know what he was really like.
Once back in the day we had a hockey chat board that a bunch of guys frequented for years before we decided to meet up. We're all good friends to this day but the aura of anonymity that greatly contributes to our perceived uniqueness went out the window the day we met.
IMO, what happens in these boards should stay here.
Yes, it's a sad day indeed, we have lost a great poster and contributor to city-data.
Walter was a `one of a kind individual, and yes, he will be missed by many. I'm left with a tad of bitter aftertaste, I always took pleasure in butting heads with Walt,
perhaps it was just my envy of his knowledge, or his zealousness for being an authority on so many issues. If I could turn back the hands of time, I'd surely retract
much of my criticizm of Walter, for in retrospect, I feel a sense of guilt for some of the things that I've said to him over these few years here. I'm sorry that my apology
to him comes posthumously, but the bottom line is that he's helped me to learn a few things more than zipcodes, hamlets and `Lawnguyland, he's provided me with the
best lesson of all, and that is, not to be so fast to be judgemental of others, to put a little seasoning on some of the things that I say to others, and if only for that lesson,
his existence here on c-d, has not been in vain.
I wonder being in the Heaven, 11777 zip code guarantees that you are actually in the town/village/hamlet of Heaven...
It is unlikely Port Jefferson's zip, which is non coterminous with the boundaries if Port Jefferson Village, would be heaven to a religious Jewish man like Walter Greenspan.
