While it is apparent that Walter had a vast base of knowledge available to him and he was willing to share it with the readers, I vote no. My reason is based upon my feeling that the posts, especially the maps, often would only add to the confusion for people not familiar with LI. By WG own words the geography of LI is confusing and in my opinion, the town, hamlets, townships, villages, unincorporated area discussion only added to the confusion. I have lived in my hometown since the dark ages and to the best of my knowledge not one person other than WG ever referred to it as a hamlet, which to me makes it irrelevant. I am not disputing the terms, the maps or the information in the postings just the helpfulness of the posts. Just my opinion.
No. No one ever wanted that info and everyone harangued him about it. They weren't particularly informative from a relocation standpoint and would only serve to confuse a prospective transplant...as we all know, the only thing that really matters on LI is the school district. If you live in Hempstead but get one of the houses that goes to Garden City schools, you really don't care what your zip code is. Anyone can find a map if they really want to. This was his hobby that he was allowed to take over the board with.
Absolutely not. Walter added nothing to the conversations except posting maps and confusing people more than helping them. I am very sorry to hear of his passing, but I don't think he was helpful at all.
