Hi guys - Appreciate it if anyone can advise what this is (please see attached pic)? First time home owner, so have no clue. It's located inside the garage, specifically near the garage door area towards the corner. Searching online, some say it's a drain. I've asked friends, but they're not really sure. Thanks in advance for any info on this!

Where the pipe exits through the wall is that area underground or visable on the outside. That looks like cast iron sewer pipe and the hole next to in looks like a sump well, is it possible that there is a dry well on the property?

The pipe exit is visible on the outside (please see attached pic). Gotta look into this dry well thing then. Thx!
It's definitely a trap/vent pipe, maybe from an old cesspool waste line? What's under that garage floor? Normally it's a concrete slab so the hole is puzzling. You wouldn't need a vent just for plain water going into a drywell (like a washing machine water drain for example.)
Maybe the garage was a later addition onto the side(?) of the house where the original cesspool line emerged? And then when they brought the sewers into the area the cesspool was filled in after the main waste line was re-routed to connect to the sewer? But if so, why leave the vent?
Weird.
If you go to the building department they may have a copy of the original building plans for your house on file which may tell you what was originally where.

Don't tell the building department what your looking up or they will want to come out and inspect...
