Hello,
I went to a few open houses in East Meadow today near Barnum Woods Elementary School. The neighborhood seemed nice, quiet and family friendly. However, I'm trying to gather some more information about the town. Is it an established town? Is it changing? Based on Great Schools it seems that the elementary and middle schools are very good. However, the high school may not be. Where do families send their high school aged children? Any pro's and con's I can get about the neighborhood would be much appreciated.
TIA!!!!

If you want anymore info, you can look at the NYS "Report Cards" for the district.

The area around that elementary school is nice. I have spent some time looking at house around the area of Merrick Av and have found the people to be nice and family orientated. The community is solid. Homeowners take good care of their properties. I would've been there already if I had not lost a bid on a house.

I moved to East Meadow in April 2012 and couldn't be happier. Our neighborhood is very quiet and has lots of families with young children including my 1 yr old. I love the fact that Roosevelt Field Mall is 5 minutes away and the endless restaurant choices so close by.

east meadow schools just have a name but the teachers dont put any effort in making the kids do well, its only the parents who do so. Since this neighbourhood is full of stay at home parents they put all the hard work to make sure their kids do well. paying 10,000 dollars to educate a child in the famous schools and let them relax and take the good name while you work hard is ridiculous. And the houses are so old it may take ages to renew and every part of it.

The schools in East Meadow are good. But I do agree about the houses. We have been looking for a house in the area for a long time but still have not been able to find one that is updated for under $375K. And the LIRR is quite a drive away.

To those recommending East Meadow, which sections would be worth looking into? Can anyone I'm thinking anything on the western border of Uniondale, Roosevelt, Westbury are best avoided, right?
