If you truly want an authentic American pizza look no further than Lucali's in Carrol Gardens. The place is small, opens late, and closes early. If you want to get in you have to wait on line 30 mins before opening. Long Island pizza is not bad and every town has at least 1 or 2 good ones that are very comparable to the rest.
If I were to rank the ones I've tried on LI:
Grimaldis GC
Umbertos wantagh
Ginos several locations
Pizzaiola,Gigantes,Mr Miceli
Original Umbertos is the company that runs all 3 locations. NHP, Wantagh, and now Bellmore.
I haven't tried Bellmore, but Wantagh and NHP are basically the same.

You will only experience that in NYC at certain shops.
So stick to the cheapest places for pizza, Long Islander's can not handle anything too good.
I gotta partially disagree on this, especially the ingredients. LI Pizzerias have some of the best ingredients. Only edge that NYC has is the water. Which I will agree makes it a little tougher to compete with on the crust. Otherwise good pizzerias here have the best ingredients, the know how, the proper ovens to make the best pizza. Go try Umbertos, Grimaldis, King Umbertos, etc. even Ginos in Mass Park.
There used to be an Albert's in Farmingdale that I LOVED but they closed quite a few years ago. I think the only one now is in West Babylon correct? Their square pie with the sauce over the cheese is amazing.
There are currently at least 4 locations that I know of. West Babylon on Great East Neck Rd, Copaigue on Great Neck Rd, Deer Park on Bay Shore Rd and Hauppauge location unknown. Hope you get to one of them. Copaigue is closest to Farmingdale. Mangia!!!!!!!!

Miceli's? Pizzaiola?
No way. Those slices are horrible, and Gigante's is hit or miss. Miceli's does have surprisingly awesome Baked Ziti though. I think the best slices in that area (Oceanside/RVC) are at Lia's.
I'll be sure to tell everyone I know who loves it that they're wrong and it's not really pizza. Thanks for clearing that up..
