Beaches. Jones Beach isn't far from you. You have a good school district in Merrick- highly rated. And Merrick is a fun town...cute village, fun street fairs, movie theater, Ralph's Italian Ice, Starbucks. Used to be a really nice independently owned coffee shop, but it closed. :-( Good pizza place (Galleria on Merrick Ave) good southwest restaurant on Merrick Ave (RS Jones), My Hero is closeby (good deli)....
Merrick is convenient to the city, but the train station parking can be a pain (fills up). Convenience to major roadways. Lots to do for the kids. Two summer camps in Merrick.
Not sure what part of Merrick you are in, but Merrick (not N Merrick) has a really nice library with good programs for kids and adults.
American Burger. Give it a try. You will change your screenname two seconds later. But if you want to stay a veeeegan...try their deep fried knish. Unless you worry about fat too.
