Can anyone offer input about the general safety of Bellerose village and Floral Park. Are there any issues with the immediate surrounding areas? Are there any sections or areas to avoid. Thank you!

Bellerose village is very nice and it is one of the "better" areas of the Queens/Nassau border, if you will.

Floral Park village as well. Both are decent towns. Even walking around at night I wouldn't be worried. There is a lot of old school Italians in Floral Park.

Sadly Bellerose happens to be all over the news today, but Normally it is a safe area. Floral park is also safe. The Nassau side of Bellerose (the village) is more desireable than the queens side.

Yes I agree Bellerose has been in the news today because of the police officer shooting on the Cross Island parkway but the Nassau side of Bellerose which is east of the Cross Island (near where the Bellerose LIRR train station is) is very nice.

Too close to the Queens border for me and way too close to Belmont Racetrack. That is the more serious issue to be factored in to the home buying decision. There is often chatter about a casino being built there (or similar venue). Just google it, if you are unaware. If that goes through, I imagine property values will decrease, congestion will increase and safety will absolutely suffer with an influx of people coming to such a destination . Think Atlantic City. I would not be comfortable purchasing a home with these concerns lingering.

In general though, although we don't hear stories like this daily, there are some pretty unsafe Queens towns in the vicinity. I wonder if the criminal in today's carjacking case was from a neighboring town? That poor officer and that poor innocent driver who was carjacked.

The less safer Queens towns are not close to the Bellerose. The not-so-safe parts of Queens are deeper in Queens (South Jamaica, Jamaica, parts of St.Albans)

Both safe towns. Have lived in Floral Park since 1996. No problems. Very well kept homes. Leave patio furniture out front, walk around safely at night. Floral Park has it's own Police Department which I believe helps keep the neighborhood quiet and safe. The unfortunate incident that happened on the CIP is a rarity for sure.
